Mexico, land of colorful and splendid natural scenery, is the geographical link between Central and North America.
Mexican morphology is the result of intense volcanic activity and the collision of tectonic plates, which has led 70 percent of the country's territory mountainous. The Sierra Madre is the main mountain range and is divided into three sectors.
POPULATION
It consists of three main groups: the descendants of Spaniards, Indiigenous and mixed races, or mixed. Mestizos are the largest group, constitute 55% of the population. The total indigenous population is about 30 percent.
Mexico, with its 180 million inhabitants (2005) is the nation's largest Spanish-speaking world. The population consists of mestizos, creoles and indigenous.
GOVERNMENT
Mexico is a Federal Democratic Republic, composed of 31 federal states and a Federal District (Mexico City Distrito Federal). Congress is formed by the Camera of Congressmen and the Federal Senate.
CAPITAL
The capital is Mexico City, with over 22 million inhabitants.
ECONOMY
Mexico since 1993 belongs to the G8 +5, a global group of industrial powers and in 2004 with a GDP of 685 Mrd. USD was configured as the wealthiest economy in Latin America. It is the main exporting nation and not just based on their primary resources, natural resources like coal, oil or gas, but also through other resources and industry increasingly developed. It is worth the economic importance of tourism in the country, representing one quarter of the total income.
EDUCATION
In Mexico, education is mandatory in the basic stage ( "Primary") and three years of "secondary" school. Mexican youth tend not to leave school until they are in the seventh class. Studies of the population indicates that nearly 10% of Mexicans are illiterate, and taking into account the indigenous people, the percentage rises up to 40%.
LANGUAGES
The official language is Spanish. In addition there are about 80 indigenous dialects (Nahuatl are the most about 24%, Maya 13% and Mixteco: 7.2%). In hotels and touristic areas english is also spoken.
CULTURE
The Mexican culture is strongly influenced by indigenous culture, Spanish, Europe and North America. The capital, Mexico City, is one of the most significant cultural centers in Latin America and show visitors a rich cultural and impressive offeri. Moreover, in other provincial citiesis there to find great cultural events. Some cities, especially those of pre-Columbian and colonial times, have been appointed by the UNESCO as World Cultural Heritage.
